Why can't I download a TikTok video? 8 fixes

Quick answer

Most failed downloads are private, deleted or region-blocked videos, or links copied incompletely. Re-copy the link from Share › Copy link, check it opens in TikTok while logged out, and on iPhone use Safari.

A TikTok that refuses to download is almost always one of eight things. Work down this list — most problems are fixed in under a minute.

1. The video is private or Friends-only

If the creator limited who can watch, the video simply isn't public, so no downloader can fetch it. Fix: none for other people's videos. If it's your own, see Can you download private TikTok videos?

2. The link was copied incompletely

Links copied from the middle of a caption, a profile page or the For You feed often don't point at a single video. Fix: open the video, tap Share › Copy link, and paste that.

3. You pasted a link from another app

Instagram, YouTube or Snapchat links won't work. Fix: make sure the link starts with tiktok.com, vm.tiktok.com, vt.tiktok.com or lite.tiktok.com.

4. The video was deleted

Creators delete videos, and TikTok removes some for policy reasons. Fix: open the link in TikTok. If it says "Video currently unavailable", it's gone.

5. The video is blocked in some regions

Some videos aren't available in every country. Fix: check whether the link plays for you while logged out of TikTok. If it doesn't, it can't be downloaded.

6. iPhone: Safari isn't saving the file

7. Too many requests

To keep things fast for everyone, we briefly slow down very high numbers of requests from one connection. Fix: wait a minute and try again.

8. TikTok changed something

Occasionally TikTok changes how it serves videos and downloads fail for a short time. Fix: try again later — our monitoring alerts us and we update quickly.
